Are You Over The PSL?

Oct 16, 2018

In a city the size of New York, we tend to fall into one of two camps- we’re either creatures of habit, committed to our preferences and avoiding the bustle, or we’re always exploring, searching out new and exciting gems. Regardless of which camp you find yourself in, there’s one thing we can all agree on, and that is the clichéd but seasonal dominance of the one, the only, pumpkin spice latte. If you’re feeling adventurous, we have our own favorite alternatives to the quintessential beverage of fall, all conveniently within walking distance of James Marquis and West Side Marquis. Whether you’re looking to explore the Upper West Side coffee shop by coffee shop, or just perusing our list to validate your own firmly-held beliefs, here they are; our favorite and most sippable anti-psl’s:

1. Irving Farm New York

Upgrade from pumpkin spice to pumpkin seed with Irving Farm’s one-of-a-kind coffee. Enjoy the foamy and flavorful beverage in their relaxed atmosphere, or take it for a scenic stroll.

2. Bluestone Lane

If your favorite part of the psl is the spice, you must try Bluestone Lane’s Golden Latte. Their aromatic and flavorful latte combines turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and black pepper for something unique, guaranteed to warm you up.

3. Box Kite Coffee

This tiny shop packs a ton of flavor into every cup. Treat yourself to a rich and creamy latte made with oat milk for the perfect midday pick-me-up.

4. Plowshares Coffee Roasters

Prepare yourself for foam art so beautiful you may not want to drink it. The relaxed atmosphere (complete with lack of wi-fi) ensures that your full concentration will be devoted to the important things, like how seriously impressive that latte looks and tastes.

5. Alice’s Tea Cup

We cheated and snuck a cup of tea into the list. If you crave that fall flavor but prefer tea leaves over coffee beans, find the nearest rabbit hole to Alice’s Tea Cup. Their seasonal and fresh pumpkin scones pair beautifully with a morning stroll on a fall day.
